This lesser known group has a lot to offer. The calibre of their uncompromising sound can be guessed at through a simple glance at some of their track titles. My favourite is the opening number "Give Me" which really sets the scene for their demanding sound. "My Reward" comes a close second in my opinion - a superb representation of a man screaming his demand for what he knows to be his by right. The equally forward and harsh "Points You" helps preserve this attitude all the way through the track listing. The album has every element of good hard metal and the speed of the final track "Trained Monkey" has to be heard to be believed. I think that these guys have a lot to offer and I would recommend this album to anyone who wants a solid sound at a very good price.

While the rock tracks on this CD are good, they are not what make the album for me. In my opinion it is the slower, more emotional tracks that really sets `Kick Out The Jams` apart. `Sometimes` is a plea to God, begging for things to change. `People Don`t Appreciate` tells the sad story of poverty being caused by people`s unwillingness to change their lifestyle. My favourite track is the in your face `What`s Going On?`, a haunting reminder of the violence that can easily be caused by infidelity. The most memorable track on the album is the controversial `In Front Of Their Very Eyes`, the chilling tale of a brother and sister witnessing their parent`s death at the hands of a drive by shooting is an emotional experience that you will never forget. You could buy this album for its more popular rock content, but in doing so I think you would be missing the point. MC5 have some very worthy stuff to say, and this album is an excellent vehicle for it.
