Again it was Ian McCafferty who was the star performer representing Great Britain at the Munich Olympics. Competing over the 5000m Ian finished in 11th place with a time of 13mins 43.2secs, this after winning his heat in a time of 13mins 38.2secs. However Ian ran even faster a month earlier at Crystal Palace, setting a new Scottish National Record of 13mins 19.8secs, ranking him third fastest in the world. The Scottish Rankings saw a record number of Law athletes making an appearance, eleven in total representing all ages. Jim Thomson was once again the pick of the youngsters, topping the Youth's 1500m with a time of 4mins 03.2secs and finishing 2nd in the 800m with a time of 1min 59.1secs. He also recorded a unique treble during the season, winning the National, District and Schools titles, thus winning the National title for the second year in a row. In the sprint events it was encouraging to see Alan Deans and Victor Topping make steady improvement, both winning medals at the District Championships, with Alan also winning the silver medal in the Scottish Championships over 200m. Given that the club is mainly involved in track running it was rather surprising, and encouraging, to se Ann Rourke being ranked 9th in the Junior Women's Long Jump, the first ever Law athlete to appear in a field event list.
