Although a slight improvement on last year with six athletes represented it was still a concern that no females made the Scottish Rankings. However it was encouraging to see two youngsters from Shotts come on to the scene. Both in the Boys age-group, Ian Brown finished runner-up in both the District 100m and 200m Championships and finished 6th in the 200m rankings. In the middle distance John McNeill looked a good prospect for the future when finishing 15th in the 1500m In the Seniors, Hugh Forgie took a huge chunk off his 1500m personal best to gain his first National medal when winning the silver medal in a time of 3mins 52.8secs, he then went even faster with a time of 3mins 50.0secs to finish 10th in the rankings. In the Youths rankings, Calum Thompson showed his strength in the Shot Putt, taking the District Title with a throw of 12m 81cm and then the bronze in the National Championships with a throw of 12m 22cm.
