It was David Russell's younger brother, Alaister, who proved to be the top performer during the year. Trying to emulate his brother, Alaister finished 2nd in the Senor Boys 1500m at the national Championships. At the same Championships, Douglas Frame won the bronze medal in the Senior 5000m with a personal best of 14mins 21.0secs. In the Junior Men's age-group, Chris Lavelle was beginning to make a significant impact, being ranked in both the 110m and 400m hurdles, he also won the bronze medal in the Long Jump at the District Championship, proving his all-round ability. Having made the marathon rankings last year, David Fairweather although falling to 65th took over three minutes from his personal best. He was joined in the rankings by Billy Dickson, only three seconds slower in a time of 2hrs 32mins 23secs and Jim Rowley with a time of 2hrs 34mins 52secs. Now in the Senior age-group, Fiona McDonald made a half second improvement in both the 100m and 200m to be ranked 9th and 12th respectively. Lorna Slater made it three years in a row in the rankings, changing events this year, finishing 14th in the Shot Putt.
