2004 proved to be one of the most successful ever, if not the most successful, with no fewer than 19 athletes being represented in the rankings and a staggering 33 Championship medals being won throughout the season. Pride of place for this season has to go to young Kyle Nicholson who not only topped the rankings at the 100m and 200m in the Under 13s but also won both titles at the National Championships, the first for any Law athlete. He also added a silver at the National Indoor over 60m and District medals at both the 100m and 200m, taking his tally to 5 for the season. Not only was it special to have a club athlete topping the rankings but we also had Alan Robb finish 2nd in the 200m rankings, only a tenth of a second behind Kyle and 4th in the 100m. Alan also had an excellent Championships collecting the Bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m behind Kyle. It was encouraging that out of the 19 athletes represented that 11 were debutants. Interestingly, in the Under 20 Men's 5000m Jamie Frame was ranked 14th with a time of 16mins 38.56secs, some 33 years since his father Douglas first appeared in the rankings. This years rankings proved to be successful for father and son, Jimmy and Ross McDonald. In the Veteran's category Jimmy was ranked 3rd in the 800m and 8th in the 1500m and also took Gold in the National Vets Indoors 800m and Silver in the Outdoor. Not to be outdone, Ross was ranked 2nd in the Pentathlon in which he won the Silver medal at the National Championships with a score of 1,530 points. He was also ranked 4th in the Long Jump and 6th in the High Jump. Further debutants were Gary Brown who finished 9th in the Triple Jump and Ronan Haddow who was 11th in the 80m Hurdles. Stewart Livingston also had a successful season finishing 13th in the 400m with a time of 56.98secs, an event which he took Gold at the District championships, and also finishing 8th in the Long Jump. Amongst the girls, Lesley Haig took the Gold medal in the Under 20s at the District Championships and also finished 8th in the rankings with a time of 58.9secs. In the Under 13 age group, two of the rising stars, Louise Hastie and Laurie McKenna made the rankings. Louise finished 15th in the 70m Hurdles and 16th in the High Jump. Laurie had an excellent season finishing 5th in the 75m with a time of 8.92secs, 7th in the Long Jump with 4m 51cm and 9th in the Indoor 60m with a time of 8.92secs. During the season Laurie picked up Bronze medals in the District Indoor 60m, District Long Jump and National Long Jump, hopefully the first of many.
