The pond above is about 1km from the town to the Black Volta side. There are crocodiles in the pond, but as you can see this doesn't stop women from collecting water there. There is a strong belief that crocodiles which live in this pond won't attack them; only 'travelling' crocodiles will attack you. You may find this difficult to believe, but in five years I never heard of any one being attacked. The crocodile is sacred to many Dagabas. If you visit during the dry season, take a 5km trip on the Jirapa road to Eremon where there is a house with a small open pond with literally hundreds of crocodiles within 50 metres of the chief's house.
