Students are very motivated in the Northern regions to be successful at school, as education can be one of the few routes to success. My SSS students often asked for additional tutorials and classes during afternoons and evenings. In fact the idea of detention in the UK, where a student would be held back and forced to study as being a punishmen, would be somewhat hard to understand.
