Jennifer Whitfield - Assistant Snorkel Instructor

I am Jenni!

I was born in Switzerland (note to all, don't do it, trust me on this one but be born in an EU country, it makes filling in important forms so much simpler) and lived there for a little bit, when I was little. Then we moved to Hull (don't do that either), but that bit of my live does mean that at times I can speak with a beautiful (if that word can ever be linked) northern accent.

I went to St. James Infants, on its old site that is now pretty houses, and its new site (but it looked completely different when I was there), and then to Sir William Perkins's School (Again on my list of things not to do. Schools with really long names can give you sore hands at times, but you can call it SWPS so its all OK). Worked my way through lots of exams (and asking for grief and hassle for myself, I did lots) and as Nick and Matt once put it so nicely 'You are far too much of a brainbox for your own good'.

In the real world, hmm, there is a real world?!? I spend as much time as possible in or on the water, or under it for that matter and er, play with small children (I'm a Beaver Scout Leader). I do far too much other Scouting, spend far too much time at the Pool as I also work there in one of those gorgeous Red and Yellow Lifeguard uniforms, and occasionally studying Engineering at Cambridge Uni.

I Joined the club as soon as I left Brownies (that is significant, they were both on Tuesday nights) so that was when I was ten, and this will be my 10th year in the club. As like so many of the rest of you, I had a friend (Yes I do actually have friends) who took me along one week, and it all went on from there! I always loved swimming type stuff, but the Swimming Club had absolutley no appeal to me, Snorkelling keeps me in the water and having fun, rather than just thrashing up and down doing lengths (but a little bit of lengths does make a good warm up!). Snorkelling didn't necessarily seem the most obvious choice as I've had problems on and off with my sinsuses. It never stopped me from enjoying Snorkellingthough. I just need to be sensible about when I dive and when I stay on the surface and watch you guys! If you're looking for sympathy on the 'I've got a cold, I can't get to the bottom of the pool' I may not have much sympathy, but equally there's plenty of fun to be had near the surface!

I have absolutley no idea how I ended up training, and I can say that with my hand on my heart, it just kinda happened. One week I was demonstrating something to someone else's group and before I knew it I was training, things work in very mysterious ways, especially when Nick is around. At the moment not sure what I'm going to be doing next, seem to learn something new every week!

The very observant among you may have noticed I'm not at the pool much at the moment, this is strangely enough related to living in Cambridge during Uni term times, but I'll still reappear in my holidays, which are handlily enough much longer than yours!
