Rob Barton - Open Water Snorkel Instructor

Well my name is Robert Edward Barton, Im married to Janet, and have two lovely girls Erin & Rhea. I live in Feltham, and I am an Open Water Snorkel Instructor at the club.

I was born on the 3rd February 1954.

School, well school was a long time ago. All the schools I attended are no longer there, but I enjoyed Mortlake Boys Secondary School. I was quite good at athletics, and I broke the records in the events I did.

For work I have done a few jobs. I am a printer by trade, but I have also worked for a while as a photographer. Im now a skiing instructor / maintainence man, and also a driving instructor. I guess my abilities lie in teaching.

In the free time I get I like to catch up on sleep. However apart from the club, Im a worship leader at my church, I help run a youth club, and run a puppet group. I also belong to the C.M.A., a motorcycle club.

Ill give you the short version for how I got into snorkelling. Ive been swimming and snorkeling for years, but a few years ago we went on a family holiday to Greece. My girls Erin and Rhea enjoyed snorkelling there, so when we got back I looked for a club to join. Im not sure how I found you, but Walton was the nearest. I never realised that there were snorkeling qualifications.

Im not one to sit and watch, though sometimes I ought to. So I asked Nick if I could help. Next thing I know he had got me on an instructors course and here we are.

I enjoy the water, liquid or frozen solid, I did powerboating for a while and hold a powerboating drivers licence.

I guess its the freedom and agility in the water I like, particularly when you can stay down a while and enjoy the peace.

As for the future Id like to learn more, and climb a little higher up the snorkelling ladder, Id also like to get qualified to scuba dive.
