Halloween Monster Splash
On Tuesday 31st October 2000 we had a halloween party at the pool during our snorkelling session. All the main pool lights were switched off to give an eerie, creepy feeling. One of the instructors brought along some music from the Rocky Horror Show to add to the atmosphere.
To
start off the evening we had a fancy dress competition. Almost everyone
dressed up in costumes including the instructors. There were people who virtually
covered themselves with face paint. Some of the costumes that were worn must
have taken a lot of thought and preparation.
For safety reasons Nick gave us all a glow in the dark night stick so that we could be seen, to activiate them you have to bend them to mix two chemicals which then produce light. Every one was asked to bring in tourches, if they had one. Some people remembered and others didn't.
Then
we were split in to two groups the first group had the luxury of Matt, who chucked
some apples in the deep end for us to do some apple bobbing. If you thought
bobbing for apples was fairly difficult in a barrel or bowl then this to you
would be impossible. Given the fact that we were doing it in a swimming pool
and that there were more than one of us trying to get an apple, causing waves.
These waves moved the apples away with some speed. It must have been a spectacle
to watch. The other group were taken by Nick down to the shallow end to dive
to the bottom for wrapped up sweets.
Some of the members who turned up must have known it was a special night because they came and joined in the fun. There was a great number of instructors who appeared out of the wood work as well.
It was a very enjoyable, funny and entertaining evening, a change from our normal training sessions.
