Xcel Leisure Centre
The club meets every Tuesday at the newly built Xcel Leisure Centre Walton. Apart from a brief break during the summer and for Christmas, we meet every week rain or shine. Our pool time starts at 7.30pm and all members are expected to be ready on poolside for a briefing by their respective instructors by 7.20pm. Prior to getting changed we frequently meet in the lounge/cafe area just inside the main entrance to talk about our weeks adventures.
Every tuesday we meet just inside the leisure centre in the cafe area until about 7:10 when we get changed and head to the pool side.
We have only been using the newly built leisure centre since the end of 2006, when the old Walton Swimming Pool was retired from public service. We have now settled in nicely and continue to provide excellent training in our new facilities. We maintain an excellent rapport with the Xcel Staff, who are frequently found laughing and joking with club staff and members.
Xcel has two pools, the larger of which we have as a private hire during our training sessions. The smaller pool remains open for public use, as does the health suite. There is a large spectator area which can be reached from the main hallway for parents / guardians to observe the training sesion. As a perk however, parents and guardians are very welcome to utilise the pool to swim during their childs' training session.
Unfortunately the pool is only 6ft deep, so deep dive training is completed during later awards such as Open Water Snorkel Diver. However, there are future plans for trips to deep dive pools on special occasions.
