The Bucks Head has hosted football matches since the late 1800's, but
surprisingly, despite substantial research, the precise date is unknown to club historians. What is known is that a group of gentlemen from the Parish Church Institute formed a football club (Wellington PCI) in 1875 and began playing at the current site in 1887.
The ground enjoyed its heyday through the 70's and 80's after the construction of the impressive east stand which was part-funded by the Telford Development Corporation as part of the ongoing development of Telford new-town as an area, but had since fallen into a state of poor repair.
All that seems to have changed now with the arrival of a new £9.5million development to bring the Bucks Head up to football league standard as part of the clubs ongoing drive to bring league football to Telford. All four sides are currently being redeveloped, with the project due for completion in 2001. The new development includes a 7000 capacity stadium, a 90 room Telford United hotel, apartments and corporate hospitality suites. Due to a delay in the development, the first five games of this season will be played at Worcester City, but we should hopefully return in
September to three-sides of a stadium fit for league football. If you're visiting the Bucks Head this season, you can be sure of a warm welcome from the locals - Telford fans are as passionate as any in
England, but we also like to think of ourselves as the friendliest fans in the league
as well! In other words, we'll slaughter you on the pitch then commiserate
in the bar with you afterwards :) A word of warning for visiting fans however; until the start of next season most of the ground is very much a building site, so
facilities could be a little bit rudimentary. Try to bear with us. Telford United have been a struggling club for TOO LONG, we're pushing very hard to make things right again but it'll take some time! Milky
