Golden Safety Rules
Always tell someone where you are going and when you are going to return.
If possible go to the coast in groups and never go alone.
For the very young only go to the coast with a responsible Adult.
Always check the Tide timetable if not keep an eye on the returning tide. If possible carry a mobile phone so you can ring for help should the need arise.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY POINTS
Rock Pools.
Rock pools because of their nature and where they are found have additional risks associated with them.
These risks include Slippery hard surfaces, Being cut off from the mainland by the returning tide.
Always check the Tide timetable if not keep an eye on the returning tide. If possible carry a mobile phone so you can ring for help should the need arise.
Wear sensible shoes for walking over the rocks and slippery surfaces.
Sandy / Muddy Shores.
This environment is usually flat. Because of this fact the tide returns quickly and can cover a large distance in a relatively short period of time. Leaving you stranded a a higher part of the coastline. Their is also a slight risk of quicksand or being stuck in the mud.
Always read any safety notices on the coastline And follow their instructions.
