The start of the tour begins with a walk down 105 slippery steps. Where you embark onto a small narrow boat and are taken though a narrow bricked tunnel. On this trip the journey to the cavern is as enjoyable if not more so than the destination. A large cavern complete with a bottomless pit as discovered by lead miners centuries ago. The tour guide skillfully maneuvers the small craft on his back with just his feet. (A job where you can't get the sack for laying down) although a small engine is used on the return journey. The cavern itself contains Derbyshires largest stalactite. Their are also unique poached egg stalagmites. The tour consists of walk throughout the cave system with a guide pointing out the attractions along the way. Theirs are various stories connected with the cavern such as a famous Highwayman known as Poole which is where the cave derives its name.
