Medical Treatment
Most injuries occur when people are paddling in sandy areas where the Weeverfish likes to bury itself in the sand remaining motionless with just the dorsal spine visible. This behaviour unfortunately for humans makes the weever difficult to see, and we step onto the venomous exposed Dorsal spine.
Other injuries occur when fisherman unsuspectingly handle the fish in a catch of another species such as sand eels etc.. These injuries usually are caused by the opercular spine of the fish.
The Treatment of the Weeverfish venom is straight forward for most "Victims".
The area of the wound is bathed in hot water (As hot as the patient can stand) until the pain of the sting is reduced. Once the pain is reduced the wound is cleaned and treated in the normal way as for any other puncture wound.
This "cure" works by denaturing the weever venom which is mainly protein based.
Anti-venom is only used in rare cases when the above treatment fails or the patient has an adverse reaction to the venom, such as Heart Tremors due to a weakness of the heart etc....
