David Parr's Hobbies & Interests Page

1. Radio

I have been interested in all aspects of radio for a long time; an interest that was triggered when I first discovered Radio Caroline in the sixties. Since then, I have followed the ups and downs (no pun intended) of this particular radio station with some interest, and am very pleased to hear that there is now an official Radio Caroline Web Site.

The station also now broadcasts regularly on satellite and via the web. If you would like to hear them, go to Radio Caroline Streaming Audio

Here is a picture of the most recent of the Caroline ships (the Ross Revenge) which I found on the Web.

Hear the Caroline Bell which was regularly used to identify the station and mark the hour.

My radio interests also include 'DXing', and I used to be a licensed Radio Amateur, but I find that I no longer have the time to indulge in this particular hobby. I am, however, still a member of an excellent British radio 'club' called the "Medium Wave Circle", which I would recommend to anyone who is interested in DXing etc. If you would like to view their home page or contact the organisers, there is a link from my Favourite Web Pages page. There are also a selection of other radio links on that page.

Radio Station Tables

Follow these links for lists of AM (Medium Wave), FM (VHF), or Long Wave Radio Stations. Please note that this list indicates the stations that are received in Merseyside, England, and therefore you will not necessarily be able to hear them (except in some cases via the internet). I am gradually making all of the stations with Web sites reachable via these tables. Please let me know of any that are missing. Happy Listening!

2.The Web & HTML

I hope you like these pages! They are an early attempt at generating a reasonable presentation in HTML. I have tried to maintain a balance between the way they look and the time taken for them to download to your PC. I intend to improve the look as I get or create more images and learn more about the language.

The authoring tools I have used are "WebEdit" for the text and general layout, and "WebPaint" which I have used to create some of the images. They are both very straight forward to use.

3. Gardening

This is a hobby which could easily use up all of my spare time, particularly in the summer. I have not, as yet, done any serious Web searches for gardening related material, so if you know of any good sites you might like to e-mail me with the details.

4. Other Interests

As well as the above activities, I also enjoy many different types of music, occasional DIY projects, and (needless to say) home computing; this despite the fact that I spend most of my working day in front of a PC monitor. I am also a Christian and involved in my local Anglican church.

A very important part of my life is my family, who (happily) consume most of my time (and PC hard disk space - games can take up a lot of Megabytes!).

Bye for now. Don't forget to take a look at some of my Favourite Web Pages.
