Doonvarna - October 2002Doonvarna are one of Lincolnshire’s most exciting and dynamic bands, playing a traditional and contemporary folk & folk-rock mix. The four-piece line-up boasts vocals, flute, whistles, guitars, bass, keyboard, drums and percussion which combine to produce a powerful and varied mix of traditional and original material, all played in the band’s distinctive folk-rock style.

In 2002, the band were one of two runners-up in BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s ‘Write a Lincolnshire Folk Song Competition’ at a packed Spilsby Theatre with their own song ‘Slash Hollow’ – “…a song the Levellers would have been proud of…” (BBC Radio Lincolnshire website). The band also reached the final in 2003 and  2005.

Not content to perform solely on the folk circuit, Doonvarna’s driving rhythms and haunting melodies have also led to further radio exposure on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. A number of interviews and  tracks recorded live ‘In Session’ have been broadcast on 'The Mix' programme. Live performances and interviews on the station's 'Drive-time' show and 'Lincolnshire Folk' programme have also been broadcast, along with tracks from the band's demo CD, 'Front Rooms in Old Towns.'

But don’t just take our word for it…
