Doonvarna - May 2006Doonvarna are one of Lincolnshire’s most exciting and dynamic bands, playing a traditional and contemporary folk & folk-rock mix. The four-piece line-up boasts vocals, flute, whistles, guitars, bass, keyboard, drums and percussion which combine to produce a powerful and varied mix of traditional and original material, all played in the band’s distinctive folk-rock style.

Since forming in 2002, Doonvarna have continued to raise their profile both in Lincolnshire and further afield. October 2005 saw Doonvarna make their third appearance in BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s ‘Write a Lincolnshire Folk Song’ competition, appearances which have included finishing as one of two runners up with the song ‘Slash Hollow’.

Their prominence on the Ceilidh circuit has also continued to grow, with bookings from across the country adding to the continued demand closer to home.

Not content to perform solely on the folk circuit, Doonvarna’s driving rhythms and haunting melodies have also ensured continued exposure on several programmes on BBC local radio, along with their third performance at Boston’s ‘Party in the Park’ music festival during Summer 2006, an event which attracted 79000 people.

But don’t just take our word for it…

"Clubs and festival organisers take note!” (BBC Radio Lincolnshire—Lincolnshire Folk)

“...flute-toting favourites...” (Boston Standard reviewing Party in the Park 2006)

“…Doonvarna’s ‘Slash Hollow’- a song the Levellers would have been proud of.” (BBC Radio Lincolnshire Website)

“Doonvarna look set to go far…” (Skegness Standard)

“...hugely impressed by them!” (BBC Radio Lincolnshire—Lincolnshire Folk)

The band is always on the lookout for opportunities to play throughout the year, particularly at festivals and folk clubs as well as at ceilidhs and other private functions. For further information please e-mail the band at info@doonvarna.co.uk
