Day 14

Bolton to Ingleton

Distance 55 miles Average speed 9.5

The day started well with a very good breakfast at Bill's G4YZE place. Crossing the Bolton ring road near Bill's was more of a problem as the traffic seamed to be constant. The morning was bright and clear so I decided to opt for the route through the Vale of Bowland and over the moor via Slaidburn. This proved to be a very good choice as the scenery is magnificent, although the hills are a little daunting.

Refuelling stops

On the way I stopped for a morning break of lemon marang pie and ice cream then a further ice cream whilst waiting for Dick to ring me from the Ringwood Rotary lunch to obtain my milage to date which was 581 (does not include walking distances). Then on to Slaidburn where I had been told of a very good cafe, so I order egg and sausage on toast.

Whilst in Burton in Lonsdale I was advised to obtain B&B in Ingleton rather than Kirby Longsdale as the latter caters more for the well healed visitor and they do not arrive on bicycles!!

Have stopped at a farm who's landlady is the cousin of Andy Wilkinson the Lands End to John O'Groats record holder with a time of 1 day 21hr 2mins 18secs achevied in September 1990, quite a coincidence.
