Day 17

Wasdale head to Cockermouth

Distance 29 Average speed 8.5 mph

Before leaving Wasdale Head I had a session on the phone to Panasonic and was informed that the Digital Camcorder was repaired, seems a dry joint was the problem. I will catch up with the camcorder when I arrive in Fort William, as Fred has offered me accommodation with parcel collection services included!! Thanks in advance Fred.

The ride out of Wasdale was too easy with a fresh northerly blowing me down the lake, this soon turned into a fresh head wind as I headed north over the white roads and inevitable hills towards Cockermouth.

The trip was puntuated by many phone calls including a live interview for BBC Radio Cumbria, organised by Nevil Stanton Jones from The Ringwood Rotary Club. This went well and seemed to last for 3 or 4 minutes, Alan my contact at the station suggested that I ring them when I have completed the walk up Ben Nevis!! so listen to BBC Radio Cumbria.

Whilst walking one of the many hills I had a radiant view of Windscale/Calder Hall reprocessing plant on the Cumbrian coast.

Paul Davis of the Mines Advisory Trust was waiting for me in Cockermouth ands we discussed their various operations in foreign parts.
