Day 20
Eskdalamuir to North Queensferry
Distance 77 Average speed 10.0 mph
After a very spartan breakfast i set out just before 08:00 on a morning with grey skies. The route went up through Eskdale forest which is planted with conifiers but for most of the way they are some distance from the road. At the top of one long rise there was the estate agents dream hideaway cottage with the apt name Foul Bog, maybe for dreams it should be nightmares!
The grey skies gave way to black clouds but except for a very light drissle there was no rain. The wind as usual was mainly from the north or NNW and by the time I reached Peebles where my origonal route was to go west I had though better of it and re routed more northerly but on major roads. The A703 was quite busy but good progress was made with the wind sometimes a little aft of the beam. I had arranged whilst in Peebles to pick up the address of my accomadation in Penicuk to save time.
The roads into Edinbourgh where very busy and the signs for the B701 that I needed to get to North Queens ferry at times were non existant. In fact the GPS was most useful after I foolishly sped downhill thinging I would see the B701 signs but no so a further mile up hill was required to get back on corse.
When i finally found the house that had been booked it turns out tobe a an older house right under the Forth Road bridge and my window looks over the Forth, so a just reward for all the slog of the day and a pud not far down the road for meals.
