PageCon 1999 FSB BIRMINGHAM BRANCH AGM CHEATS DEMOCRACY
Don Anslow

The branch committee closed the nominations list for the 1999 branch AGM before the AGM date was published. Nominations said to close 30 September, but the meeting date published in October.

Birmingham members in attendance challenged the manner of the nomination process as managed by one time FSB director/shadow director Don Anslow (pictured) and his wife Kate Anslow. During the preceeding year they had been Branch Chairman and Branch Secretary, respectively.

Both Don and Kate Anslow were also nominated candidates in the election.

FSB director and Company Secretary David Dexter (pictured) attended the meeting and in effect took over as meeting chairman. In opposition to David Dexter's abuse of his position, and his improper interference in the democratic process, the branch members attending the meeting refused to elect any officers or committee members, and the meeting ended.

No subsequent general meeting was convened and Mr & Mrs Anslows and other were autocratically installed as branch officers by the FSB heirarchy; who no doubt following a report of sorts to the directors by Mr Dexter'.

Yet David Dexter insisted that the Birmingham Branch an extra-ordinary general meeting was not necessary!

QUESTIONS BEGGING ANSWERS

  • Is this practice in an FSB branch in the interest of democracy and constitutionality?

  • Was the Birmingham Branch directed to convene an extra-ordinary general meeting (EOGM)?

  • Why did the Company Secretary David Dexter interfere with the Birmingham Branch's AGM?

  • Why is David Dexter so keen to maintain Don Anslow as branch chairman instead of ensuring a fair and open AGM to elect legitimate branch officers ?
