FSB Member 'Illegally' Barred From AGM Elections
(by FSB Company Secretary/National Secretary David Dexter) |
David Dexter Takes Chair Amidst Protest From The Floor These incidents took place at the Annual Regional General Meeting of the FSB Staffordshire and West Midlands region at the Posthouse Hotel, Birmingham on 24 November 1999. Despite the wish of members attending the AGM, in concert with the then Regional Chairman Douglas Evans, David Dexter took the chair for the annual election of regional officers. In spite of protest by some members, David Dexter insisted that he had been invited to take the chair for the elections by the outgoing regional chairman who was not re-elected by the members. Election of Senior Regional Officers The late Mr Patrick Powell of Birmingham was elected Honorary Regional Chairman and Mrs Patricia Wieland of Lichfield was elected Honorary Regional Vice-Chairman. Both pledge to work on behalf of members to look into members allegations of fraud. David Dexter Bars Hubert Taylor From Election When candidates for the election of Regional Secretary were named, David Dexter declared that Hubert Taylor had been barred from holding office by an FSB Dispute & Disciplinary tribunal decision. Members Protest There was much protest and David Dexter was asked to show documentary authority for his action because Hubert Taylor (present at the meeting) who had been properly nominated and entered as a candidate for the election, had had no previous notification of such a bar. David Dexter Rises To Stifle Members Protest However David Dexter refused show to members a copy the relevant authoritative document, and, refused requests from the members in attendance that the matter be discussed. As chair for the time being David Dexter remained on his feet and refused 'point blank' to permit members to have their say at their AGM! Concession For Peace To avoid further unpleasant scenes Hubert Taylor invited members the action by Company Secretary David Dexter but vowed to fight to overturn the decision and to expose those guilty of maladministration and fraud against the FSB and its members.
