In 1979 Jan & Jimmy met when she joined the sales team at the garage he was then employed at in South London. Shortly afterward the garage closed making them both redundant. Without a FIAT agent nearby many of the local FIAT owners approached Jimmy asking him to service their cars, and so after finding a suitable workshop, together with Jan, Jimmy set up in business repairing Fiat's & Lancia's
Looking for a small car
to use as
a "works van" Jimmy found an abandoned FIAT 500, and after he replaced
the timing chain Jan used it every day as a run around. At first people
used to laugh at the little car, but realising how cheap they were to
run
and how easy to park - the original city car - Jimmy was soon inundated
with orders for similar cars.
