Computer Stuff / Work Experience:
I have worked with HP3000 computers (now e3000s) for over 22 years,
starting out at Zilog in Campbell, California in July 1981
as a System Manager for a couple of Series IIIs,
and then moving to ROLM Corporation back when it was a truly young
and creative place to work. I worked at ROLM for four and
a half years as a System Manager for 15 HP3000s onsite and 17 scattered
across the states connected via X.25(mostly 64s and 70s)
until I returned to England in 1988.
Since then I have worked for a Holiday Company for two and a half years on a series 48, a 70 and a 950 and then became a freelance contractor when I was made redundant. I worked on a couple of contracts, the first was for about two years using Speedware, Powerhouse and System Management and the second was for four and a half years using Powerhouse, System Management and Operations Automation. I currently work for a division of an Italian Oil Company in the New Forest where I have been for over 5 years. I have mostly moved out of the HP3000 arena and more into supporting SAP software. I also write Visual Basic programs, support a Windows NT/2000 network and provide the web content for the company intranet which involves PHP, MySQL, Javascript, Apache and Oracle. I create websites in my spare time. Enough about computers.
Interests:
I enjoy being with my children, modern jive, mountain biking, walking in the forest (and other places),
the beach, chess, science-fiction, the Internet (website design), Tai-chi, (used to enjoy Aikido),
good food, good wine, good company. My ambition is to become independently wealthy so I can spend more time with
my children and pursue my interests without having to spend my time and energy
"chasing the buck".
That's all.
