Student Conduct

In general, you must not

behave in any way that disrupts or adversely affects the conduct or reputation of the University,

stop others from enjoying the full facilities that the University offers,
inhibit freedom of speech,

bring a firearm or any other offensive weapon onto University premises,

engage in racial, sexual or other forms of harassment of any member of the University.

If you are organising a meeting to be held on University premises, you must follow the Code of Practice on Meetings on University Premises. This is available from your Faculty Office.

Disciplinary Procedure
When the University believes that you have acted in a way that is disruptive, it may start disciplinary procedures against you and you will be interviewed, usually by the Dean of your Faculty. If, after investigation, the University decides that disciplinary action is necessary, depending on the seriousness of your offence, it can impose a range of penalties from a formal advisory warning to expulsion from the University.

You can take a friend or representative with you to a disciplinary hearing. If the University starts disciplinary procedures against you, we advise you to contact the Union of Students’ Advice Centre for support.

Smoking
The University has a no smoking policy. Smoking is not allowed in any of the University buildings, including private offices.

Smoking will be allowed only in the Union of Students bars and in the sports pavilion at Moor Lane.

Parking
Certain University car parks are available for student use, please note that areas marked with a double yellow line or yellow cross hatching must be kept clear at all times. Bournville has a small car park and parking spaces are usually available in adjacent roads.
