STUDENT CHARTER
Birmingham Institute of Art & Design is committed to providing high quality
education, and equal opportunity, for all students. It endeavours to offer a
professional, friendly and caring environment which encourages you to develop
to your full potential.
You are entitled to a course of high quality. In particular, you are entitled
to expect from the Faculty:
- a course handbook, containing information on your course,
including aims, objectives, structure, content, assessment regulations and
the appeals system.
- a safe working environment and relevant health and safety
information.
- access to your own academic records.
- advice on course options and the possibilities for transfer
to other courses, course units or course modes in the Faculty.
- confidential access to all your Course Tutors, your
Head of Department and the Dean.
- confidentiality of personal and academic information.
- constructive help and guidance from all members of academic,
administrative and technical staff.
- early notification of examination dates and submission
dates for assignments and projects.
- high quality teaching marked by punctuality and clear
instructions about what is required of you.
- impartial treatment.
- information about the University, its procedures and
the services it offers.
- prompt notification of your marks for assessment.
- prompt return of relevant course work.
- reasonable access to facilities that will enable you
to complete your work.
- the opportunity to contribute to the evaluation of your
course and of the college.
- where appropriate, a guide to each course unit, including
objectives, content, and the nature of the assessment procedure.
- where relevant, provision of a transcript of grades
or marks, upon request, after you have left the University.
Your responsibilities are:
- compliance with relevant University and Faculty regulations.
- electing and supporting student representatives.
- handing in all projects, essays and assignments on time.
- informing the appropriate tutor of any circumstantial
changes that might affect your progress.
- intelligent and proper use of University staff and resources.
- maintaining your current address in the university records.
- prompt payment of all fees due from you to the University.
- regular and punctual attendance at all obligatory sessions.
- regular use of tutorial facilities.
- to act at all times in a manner which respects other
members of the University.
- to help in maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.
- to respond, when requested, to surveys on student satisfaction
from the Centre for Research into Quality.
- undertaking the necessary preparation for study.
