Writing References

Right you know the show inside out and back to front and want to write about it.  But who will want to read it?  Well getting the basics right will at least ensure that your readers don't give up, clutching their eyes after the first page.

America 101

For all those fans, like me who are on the wrong side of the Atlantic, keeled over in near-hysteria when Doggett asked Langly if he was wearing pants, and couldn't find Washington on a map unless it jumped up and bit them.

The White House - Start with the official line.
Abbreviation Agencies -Translation of all those acronyms with links of the websites of the relevant organisation.
Maps on Us - One of those handy route planners so you don't have a three day journey done overnight...
US Climate - ...Or have snow in summer Florida.
Travel Further - American/British dictionary - avoid repetitions of the 'pants' confusion.
Differences in American Grammar -The guys speak American even I don't.
US 2 UK -Cultural differences.  Things like the road system, drinking laws, working practices, slang.  Useful stuff.

Conspiracy Theories and Where to Find them.

The guys' bread and butter so you'd better be up on them.  Happily the net is far from short of websites on the subject.

Nexus - The online site of one of the best known magazines.
Serendipity -from CIA to new age weirdness. Updated frequently.
Conspiracy Planet - Lots of ideas, rather disturbing actually.
What Really Happened - Mostly about alleged terrorism.  Even more scary than the last one.
Conspiracy Network -Sorted by category, lots of links.
Cryptogon  - Lots about current events.

Or not...
The Odds of That - New York Times article about how likely unlikely coincidences really are.

Computers and Techyness

Hard to write a LGM fic without techydom working its way in somewhere.

Slashdot - Probably the biggest gathering of stroppy techies on the net.  News and discussion site.
EFF - The Electronic Frontier Foundation.  Online privacy and civil rights issues.  Pretty sure the guys'd have this site bookmarked.
EPIC - This too.  The Electronic Privacy Information Centre.
The Jargon File/New Hacker's Dictionary - Slang, terminology and a good way to lose a few hours browsing.
2600 - The online version of probably the best known hacker zine.  Oh and it's pronounced 'twenty-six hundred.'
Attrition - Good site for getting the 'feel' of hacker culture.
Packet Storm - Computer security, and the lack thereof.  Lots of info.  NB: There are descriptions of exploits and software tools on this site that will not make the Three Letter Agencies love you if you use them.

LGM Fan Fiction Archives

Now go and write.  Best way to improve is to write lots and read lots so here's a collection of LGM fic archives to while away many hours.

Fan Fiction Bunker - Fic from the Topica mailing list.
Countermeasures - Large archive.
Odd Men Out  - And another.
Sally H and Erynn's Fic - With Things Undone and the Saga.
D. Sidhe  - Erika's (mostly slash) fic.
The Alternative Arts - Surreal's archive, also hosts fic by AlisonX and Mice.
