Gelert House Overview | ||
Gelert House was built around 1880. Its original purpose was to serve as the tap room for the Royal Goat Hotel, located about 200 metres from the house. Around the turn of the 20th Century it became a temperance hotel. A complete role reversal if ever there was one. Since the 1930's the house has functioned as a family home and has been in the possession of our family for almost 50 years. It still continues to be a home and focal point for family gatherings. A Short Tour The front of the house has space for two cars. There is a large veranda at the front with a bench. This is great for getting out of wet clothes before entering the house.
On either side of the hall are two living rooms. Both are equipped with televisions and the larger room has a working fireplace. Coal can be purchased from the grocers across the road or a number of local merchants.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms. Three are equipped with double beds and the fourth has two single beds. All beds come complete with duvets and bed linen is provided. For the more cold blooded types all beds have electric blankets.
Outside there is a fully enclosed garden with outbuildings including an outside toilet (fine in summer but only for the brave in winter). In 2006 the house finally got full central heating thanks to installation of oil fired system, with radiators in all rooms (including the toilet!!). | ||
