Skyline R32 1989-1994 The Skyline name dates back to 1955, with
the first GTR appearing in 1969. The first model of real importance that
started the legend was the 1989 R32, offering a high technology 4 wheel
drive, 280bhp masterpiece. The HICAS four wheel steer system works by
sensing the steering input, along with the lateral g-forces and the cars
speed to decide on the amount of rear wheel steer to apply. When entering a
bend the rear wheels turn the opposite way to the front wheels, which enables
a fast turn in; the wheels then turn the other way to settle the car, thus
virtually eliminating under-steer. The engine is a 24 valve 2.6 litre straight
six with two Garrett turbochargers. The engine is detuned to fall within the
280bhp Japanese limit. The V-Spec R32 comes with up-rated Brembo
vented brake discs, retuned 4wd and 17” alloys. R33 1994-1999 The next generation Skyline included had a
more curvaceous look outside, and on the inside had an up-rated intercooler
and engine computer. The car was made stiffer including front and rear strut
braces. The standard car gained the previous models improved brakes, and also
got bigger 17” wheels. There was also a V-Spec version of this car
which added an up-rated four wheel drive system, active limited-slip
differential and harder suspension. Nissan’s motorsports tuning division Nismo
produced a special edition 400R model. For a lot more money you got a 400bhp
2.8 litre engine with a 10000rpm red line, Nismo brakes, lower suspension and
18” wheels. There was also a rare four door model. R34 1999-2001 The R34 had a significantly revised body, and
added all round improvements over the previous model. The interior is
improved with racing style seats and an LCD screen displaying stats from the
cars sensors. Performance
