1.         Natural, 4+ cards.

2.         Natural, forcing for one round, 4+ cards.

3.         Splinter showing a losing singleton.

4.         Cue bid

5.         Cue bid

6.         Roman Keycard Blackwood

7.         Two of five keycards, without the queen of trumps.

In the other room, the bidding was as follows:

West                North              East                 South

Willard            Daphne           Cronier            Betty

1ª                   2©                   3¨                   3©

Pass                 Pass                 3ª                   Pass

4ª                   All pass

I’d better not comment on Daphne’s 2© overcall and Betty’s 3-card raise, which took up bidding room and made it more difficult for France to reach the slam; suffice it to say that it is unlikely North-South interfered at all of the 56 tables at which the slam was not bid.

We lost the match by 64-27 IMPs, or 23-7 in VPs, which prevented us from gaining a hat-trick against the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal-winning teams of France, Italy and Spain.
