Mill Hill 2nd XI 2-2 Staines 2nd XI (Match played as a friendly)
An intended League fixture was again abandoned because (we think for a least the third time in recent years) Mill Hill provided an unacceptable pitch, the lines not being visible from more than 10 yards. The umpires were not particularly happy, most of the Staines players were unhappy and Rodney Crowe was very unhappy – so that was that!
Rodney, wholly uncharacteristically (?) took a firm stance. He advised the disgruntled Mill Hill Captain that perhaps they would now eventually learn their lesson!
The ensuing friendly was well fought in good spirit, in horribly wet conditions and produced a fair result.
"Captain Catastrophe" Servais amazingly managed to deliver 11 players for the start of the game. He also scored his second and third penalty strokes of the season. The first stroke was awarded after great work from Rodney Crowe and the second after the hand of a Mill Hill defender stopped an otherwise certain goal from a well-worked short corner.
There were some good performances particularly from Clive Bolton who was very solid at the back.

Staines Men’s 3’s - Match Report 7 October 2000. V. Portsmouth City 4.
It was a miserable soggy day (again) as the Blue Army 3rd Battalion prepared their battle plans for the visiting Portsmouth team. Once the opening flurry of activity settled down Staines again showed that they are a match for any opposition in the South Premier Div 2. For the first 20 minutes Staines had most of the play, but couldn’t achieve the final break through, although several chances went very close. Towards the end of the half Portsmouth started to make some threatening breaks, but the Staines defence denied them a shot at goal.
Staines pushed back at the start of the second half, Sid collecting and showed amazing composure thrashing the ball to a grateful Portsmouth attacker - there followed a brief period of frenetic activity whilst Staines woke up and regained some team structure !
Eventually Staines won a short corner, which although not the best executed, resulted in Sidney deftly shooting for a 1-0 lead to cries of WAZZZAAH !. Unfortunately not five minutes later Portmouth levelled when Staines had a rare defensive lapse, allowing a free hit just outside the D to be scrapped in at the back post - ARSE !
Soon after, Alpesh from a superb run down the wing, missed a complete sitter that was begging to be put away (hard luck old chap !). Then after being a fed an inch perfect long ball by our marvellous left back, Alpesh appeared to fall over at the edge of the D - when the Portsmouth defender said BOO! Maybe Alpo was suffering from fur balls this week, as at times he was not purring on all cylinders. Perhaps his Donkey’s Arse award was a little harsh !
Another good spell from Staines (in an otherwise patchy display) saw a Whispering Sid ‘exocet’ deflected in for Staines second goal by the hard working Martin Rengger. Unfortunately not five minutes later (have we not heard this before !) Portmouth levelled, this time from a short corner which they executed well, their snap shot squeezing past our keeper.
The game ground its way to a final 2-2 draw, Keith Hine (umpiring) deciding to call it a day as the rain water gushed out of the lace holes in his trainers. Richard the chemist was voted Hero of the day for a hard working effort in midfield and producing some tasty sandwiches.
Andy Taylor was looking worried, he hasn’t received a Donkey’s Arse vote this season !

What an exciting start to the season. Our first league match against Sunbury resulted in a 3 - 3 draw.
We had difficulty getting it together in the first half and once we were 3-1 down thought the game was lost for sure. A goal scored by Janet Bailey gave a new enthusiasm to the team who were bravely determined to fight back.
The last 10 minutes of the game saw Staines defend passionately, determined not to let in a winner from Sunbury.
We ended with an excellent result after our shakey start. Goals were scored by Janet Bailey, Linda Mc Cormack and Kath Windsor -Bayne.
Player of the match was given to Linda McCormack who worked hard throughout (we appreciate her driving fom Milton Keynes to play with us).
The next 6 weeks could be a testing time with Kate Lemon off to Australia but I'm sure we'll get by without her!!
