Mens 2nd XI
If someone from the Home Office was watching on Saturday, I
have no doubt that they would have described us as a “pile of pants”.
We started brightly enough when after 5 minutes from a quickly taken free hit
just outside the 25, Andy Oliver’s rapier like pass picked out the excellent
run of Richard Hudson who’s deflection opened the scoring in a spectacular fashion.Staines
should have wrapped up the points 10 minutes later when Andy Oliver this time
found Adam Servais whose skilful deflection hit the inside of the post and somehow
stayed out of the goal.
Half time, one nil up and then the “pants” factor came into being. For some
reason, probably Christmas Party hangovers catching up, we completely lost the
ability to pass the ball to members of our own team. Mill Hill accordingly
scored twice to take the lead. Late on, Andy Oliver did his old trick of taking
the ball out of the D and then back in again but amazingly this time succeeded
in scoring to level affairs. Unfortunately, the match ended as a disappointing
draw for us although the post match sauna and excellent teas were small consolations.
Saturday was a BNO so I am not sure how the voting went other than Andy Nelhams
apparently managed 7 tequilas in as many seconds. We nearly froze to death
outside Chicago’s but it was worth it when we got in. And, JD had a very amusing
re-acquaintance with his old mate Chris Hankins – you must ask him about it!
Happy Christmas!
Andrew Oliver

Ladies 1st XI
Staines Ladies 1st XI 1 - Wycombe 2
Staines Ladies 1st XI played a friendly game against Wycombe this
Saturday.
Sarah Chandler had to dash from her earlier morning game to get to the game
at Wycombe and play her second game of the day. Staines went 1-0 up in the first
half with a goal from Lizzie O’Neill, her first this season. An injury to Sue
O’Connell during the first half meant a move around for the Staines team and
Sue playing left wing and then centre forward.
In the second half Wycombe scored 2 goals giving them the win.
