Mens 1st XI

Mens 2nd XI

Gerrards Cross 2nd Eleven v Staines 2nd Eleven

Needing just a point to confirm the blues as champions the Staines 2nd Eleven approached the game with high spirits. Wary that GX might put out some ringers a photo of their first eleven was taken just in case - Mr 'Commitment' Greenway with the polaroid. The game started brightly and Staines pushed forward in numbers through the strong running of Greenway, Hudson and Atkinson. GX struggled to keep hold of the ball and a well worked short corner let Atkinson put the Blues ahead. Good defensive tackling was combined with strong midfield work and a sharp cross allowed Hudson to get in front of the GX defender for two nil to the blues. Staines took their foot off the gas for a bit and the game became stretched with neither team exciting the huge crowd (Bob, his dog and my parents). Staines managed to win another short corner and again Atkinson despatched in usual style to give Staines a boost going into the second half. One particular highlight was the partnership of Oliver and Hudson combining to stand on the ball as everyone cracked up laughing. Second half began with GX playing some better hockey and the Blues thinking of champagne. With plenty of midfield play and a number of wasted passes it wasn't the greatest of games to finish a very successful season but Blues didn't mind as Staines 4th goal was finished in some style. A fine cross from the left allowed Beeson an opportunity. Unfortunately it was miscontrolled but with lady luck on the Staines side it trickled over the line - classic !!!! Just to keep him busy the away team then let a GX forward waltz through to make it 1-4 against the goalie Woods
- much pleased he was too !!! With the final whistle Staines were crowned champions and an evening of merriment ensued. A good season with only one loss meant a rise to Southern Premier and the temptation of some good hockey next year. Get In !!!!

Ladies 1st XI

Staines 10 Hampstead & Westminster 0

Staines had to win by at least 8 goals to be in with a slight chance of winning the league if Poly kept Hounslow & Ealing to a draw on Saturday. With this in mind Staines started strongly and got their first within 10 minutes, scored by Ruth Hine. The second came moments later from Sue O'Connell and the third scored by Kerry Maskery again a few minutes later. Staines kept up the pressure but did not put any more goals passed Hampstead & Westminster who were not afraid to push up themselves. After the second half team talk with a reminder of the 5 goals needed, Staines did even better and scored another 7 goals in the second half. The ball was never out of the oppositions half and many goals were scored from well taken short corner routines. Ruth Hine got her hat-trick, her first for the club and Sue O'Connell got her second in the game, Jo Ive scored twice with Alex Stacey and Anna Trueman adding to the total. An excellent team performance by Staines who ended up second in the league after Hounslow & Ealing won their game.
