Staines Date 17/12/05. Another adventure for the SHC Glorious Fours under the command of Captain Caro. Their mission…to boldly go where no team has gone before (or something like that)…….

This week’s episode saw the SHCGF facing the team from Brack-Nell – a fearsome race armed with youth and tartan skirts – on the freezing cold barren landscape of Faul-Kners Astro. We had a secret weapon – Kath with the Christmas Hat with Blonde Plaits and the horrible Pants of Doom (apparently they’re lucky…. just hope she washed them since last year!)

The crew numbers were low to start with – Captain Caro was worried - where were Heather and CJ? Turns out they’d beamed down earlier for a pitch spying mission and were currently disguised as umpires for the Mens 6’s. Reassured, the situation improved further when Elly turned up (half an hour late)… ‘you said 2.30pm!’ she insisted ….. must have been some breakdown in the communications systems!

Umpires’ whistles go – Engage!

The team from Brack-Nell put up a good fight especially as they were slightly outnumbered, having only nine players to our eleven, the SHCGF bolstered by temporary postings from the SHC Lovely Fives this week.

Our first goal was scored by CJ, though it was poached from Lindsey’s strike which was going in anyway (in JP’s words ‘just making it safe’!...sorry L!).

The force-field around our goal mouth failed in the second half, the Tartan Skirted Brack-Nell striker snatched the ball and promptly took the opportunity to slot it in past an unsuspecting Karen in goal.

The intrepid crew from the SHCGF made sure of a further three goals though, one from Lindsey – an uninterrupted, un-poached strike from the top of the D. I really wish I could remember who scored the other two and apologise for my completely poor memory. Must start writing notes after the game rather than try to do it two days later!

By the full time whistle we were ready for a glass of mulled wine or two – Captain Caro headed for the kitchen to make it (so), secure in the knowledge that the mission was a success and another Saturday had been saved! Hurrah!

Crew member of the Day – Lindsey – faster than a phaser beam

Weird alien of the day with unconvincing tentacles – too scared to turn up!

Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!
