Oh My god……We’ve still won the league!!!!

I think it’s safe to say that after last week we were all still in a state of disbelief that after all our ups and downs, we had secured promotion to South div 3 (2 weeks early I hasten to add) and a place in the Middx cup Final.

Training this week was interesting.  With Duncan being unwell, hands up those who thought we’d be in for a light session and early finish?  So that’s all of us then, and how wrong we were!!!  Still we did as instructed by Shay, and joined in accordingly.  We even played a game and beat the 1s now let me see was it 4 or 5 goals to your 1 ???  Oh don’t you want to play with us anymore then ??

Saturday’s game found us taking on Hampstead and Westminster in the a**e end of Paddington.  All of us hate this fixture, not least because it’s a b****r to get to, they always give us a hard time, and it always rains.  However this week it was academic for us at least.  I think it’s fair to say that we were somewhat complacent, but it is difficult when you know you’ve already won the league.  Spirits were high, well Baldy’s at least.  She just can’t help herself, yet again this week’s recipient was Ali.  I did warn you all last week that I would tie my hair up, so there’s not point trying to make a big thing out of it now!

From the off we lacked something.   I blame the two very strange men wafting samurai swords around in the middle of the running track for putting us off.  That and the fact that Oli decided with her  physique that she should really be competing in the Commonwealth Games Diving team rather than playing hockey.  I think it’s best left to the imagination myself!!

As usual this game was hard work, or rather we made it hard work for ourselves.  HW had a girl who could hit the ball harder than any man, and how rude is that ???  We had a reprieve when she went off half way through the first half, but it was short lived.  And I think it was the same girl who whacked the ball at Ema’s toe which resulted in a break and a fracture.  You too can join the elite fracture clinic club when you play and defend for the Ladies’ 2s.  So far it’s Ali and her thumb and Ema and her toe!!  God this is such a rough game we play!!

Despite everything we couldn’t score except for Baldy although Lizzie came close, but even then we couldn’t equalise, so we ended it 2-1 down.  Still who cares we’ve won the league and we’ve got the Cup Final tomorrow.

Sunday 26 March………Middx Cup Final Day

So here we all are on Mother’s Day, with no subs.  But hey this is the Staines Ladies 2XI squad, and NEVER I repeat NEVER underestimate their drive and determination for themselves and their Coach.

This was always going to be a tough game against Winchmore Hill & Enfield, but we believed we could win, and after everything this was just the icing on the cake.  We went 1-0 up, courtesy of Baldy.  Things were looking good when Ez made it 2-0.  WH &E pulled it back to 2-1.  We had everything to play for, all we had to do was hold our nerve, but the oppo, who had always looked dangerous equalised with 2 mins to go.  Oh god it’s going to go to flicks.  1 min to go, Serena saved us, with some awesome play into the D for Baldy to poach a goal, which put the final nail in the coffin.

What an awesome performance by the Ladies 2XI squad.  We are Middx Premier League Winners, and now Middx Cup Final Winners.  Our thanks must go first and foremost to our Coach Duncan, who devotes his time and energy to us, and above all else believes in us.  He took on the Ladies 2s and in 2 seasons we’ve secured promotion twice, and now a Middx Cup win, but more importantly we’ve got a squad of players who work well and play well together.  This is down to Duncan, and despite the grief he gives us at times we love him for it.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took time out of their Mothering Sunday to support us.  We really do appreciate it, especially as it was so cold and wet.  And without wishing to single anyone out in particular, the following deserve a special mention:

1:  Duncan for his help, support, and general grumpiness when required.
2:  Lou for her excellent captaincy
3:  Oli for her superior flick taking and role as Vice Captain
4:  Everyone who’s umpired for us.
5:  All of you who have supported us, we really do appreciate it
6: Everyone who’s played for us, and helped us out when we’ve been hit by injury

Finally this has been a brilliant season for the club, but I feel at this point it has to be said that the Ladies Section have been AWESOME.  Was there ever any doubt that girls were better than boys ?  I DON’T THINK SO !!!!!
