ERF
I have always had a soft spot in my affections for ERF, in 1965 I drove a 4 wheeler ERF with a 5 cylinder
Gardner Engine for A.Brown and Sons of Epworth Near Doncaster. It's registration number was YBE 167
I often wonder if she made it in to preservation ? anyone out there know ? Like wise with another ERF I
drove at Brown's, it was a 22 ton gross 6 wheeler reg No FBE 131D This was a beast to drive, no power
steering, I had 1100 x 20 cross ply tyres on the front and 900 x 20 redials on the back this helped with the
steering a little, but you still needed plenty of elbow power to get into tight spots. She was powered by a
120 Gardner engine, she was'nt the fastest lady on the block but she was a good puller. I had a regular run
Doncaster to Fochabers (Baxters Soups on Speyside) it took me 5/6 days per trip including loading back
out of the Aberdeen area. Unfortunatley I seem to have lost most of the pictures I had from those days but
I managed to find this one with my son Andrew sitting on the bumper of another ERF I drove at Browns
reg number GBE 543D Andrew is now a 6ft 4in man of 43 with teenage children of his own (tempis fugit)

A picture of a contented man or the cat that got the cream. It was a great two day show all credit to the committee of REVS for organising the ERF
Section of the show. Over 200 ERF vehicles attended over the two days, go to picturetrail on my home page for more ERF pictures at Kelsall.

Took these pictures at West Winch, near Kings Lynn on the A10. Jay Miller's Circus is in town . Thursday 21st Sept 2006
Looks like Jay Miller likes his ERF's, anyone recognise any of these fine beasts ?
ERF's also seem popular with the vintage ploughing brigade, these pictures were taken at the Festival of the Plough which
was held at High Burnham Farm, Epworth, near Doncaster on Sunday 17th September 2006

Big Al's Latest toy, ERF EC11 with Cummins engine, Ex Turner's of Hoole Fleet. Still in Turner's fleet colours. Reg No M62 BHG
Graeme Turner kindly sent me some details of this Ex Turner's Fleet ERF. It was originally purchased as an EC10 4x2 unit fitted with a Cummins L10
350 engine and ran at 28 ton gross. After 4 years she was altered to a 6x2 configuration to run at 41 tonnes gross, when the weights went up to
44 tonnes gross the L10 engine was removed and replaced with a M11 405 Cummins fitted with 13 speed Fuller gearbox and Rockwell rear axles.
Graeme also sent me some pictures of the Turners Fleet over the years including some of the above unit, now registered M62 BHG but was
originally M3 THL. The unit was subsequently sold to Wm Shepherd from whom I purchased it in August 2007
As you can see Turner's registration numbers get swopped around a bit.

Taken at the ERF & Foden day at the Leyland Vintage Commercial Museum on King Street N14 THL in showroom condition, Graeme
also sent me these two pictures. Jerry Cook and his dad Vince work for S.Jones of Walsall and have ERF stamped through them
like the writing in a stick of Blackpool rock, here they lead the way to The ERF and Foden day at Leyland Commercial Museum.
And here is Graeme's latest pride and joy N14 THL on manoeuvres with the MOD in Warminster.
