COR MEIBION MAESTEG A'R CYLCH

MAESTEG & DISTRICT MALE VOICE CHOIR

Maesteg & District Male Voice Choir produced a glorious evening of songs from the valleys on their 14th May visit to Midsomer Norton.

Led by conductor Shelly Tomas Brown, accompanist Rhian Yamin-Ali and Master of Ceremonies, Bryn Roberts, the 50 strong choir sang with great depth, feeling and purpose, underlining their high standing in the Welsh Valleys.

Church organist Douglas Richings entertained with his individual type of music before the concert and during the interval.

Opening the concert, the choir sang with great gusto, M Thomas’s “Llanfair”.  Adophe Adam’s “Comrades a Man’s Song” was vocally strong and the most popular of the evening was “Myfanwy” by Joseph Parry.  Producing a lighter part of the choirs program, A Simmons “Kings of Swing”, “When they begin the Begin” and “Ain’t  Misbehaving” was loudly applauded, followed by “Bryn Myrddin”, a rousing song by Brian Davies.  “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Gwahoddiad” was a fitting end to the program and concert.  Soloists, Brian Jones, Tenor and Sally-Ann Kingsbury, Soprano, were excellent with fine voices and were appreciated by the enthusiastic audience.

Lion President, John Whittock, thanked the sponsors: Performance Sports, Fred Bartlett’s Studio, Norad Travel and Channel Five Video; St John’s Ambulance for their attendance; the Church Ladies for their welcome refreshments; the Lions Activities Committee for their hard work and not forgetting the near capacity audience for their support.  Proceeds from the concert will go to Lions Charities.
