Why do we have a wheel in our headline?
This represents a pit head wheel from a coal mine.
There is a pit head wheel mounted in the centre of Radstock, just outside the Museum.
Radstock and Midsomer Norton were the centre of the Somerset coal field which was noted for it's difficult geology, having shallow and frequently fractured seams.
The last pit closed in 1971.
