President's jottings (2003-2004)
Doesn't a year go fast when you're enjoying yourself?
This year has been excellent in terms of the charities and the individuals we have supported. This hasn't been about me though; I've just been a figurehead for this great club. It would not have happened without having great chairmen to each and every committee, and the commitment and hard work of every member.
From the leadership on the Tom Huyton play park appeal, to the Golf day, not forgetting the outings and social events, when we can relax and enjoy the fellowship; to the hard work of bringing in new members, the continuous publicity, not forgetting the backroom work of treasure and secretary.
All of the fundraising would come to nothing if we didn't work as a team, and I have been proud to be part of that tem. Of course we also rely on the support and assistance of the Lions Ladies at these events and this year, as usual, they have excelled. Thank you for everything (especially the cheque for £683 for my charity, it really is appreciated) cause I may need the cardiac unit again ! !
Than you for giving me the opportunity to represent you, I hope I haven't done anything to bring the Lions into disrepute (apart from being arrested)
I know I am handing the mantle over to someone who will do the club proud, and he has had a practice, but before I do, just allow me one last quote!
"When some people go hungry, it's not food that's in short supply, BUT JUSTICE."
Robert Briggs, President, 2003 - 2004.
