YOUTH EXCHANGE 2006

Lion Derek L and Lynne have looked after two young ladies from Monday 17th July to Thursday 27th.

Hildur Bakkene from Sparsborg in Norway and Mia Nieminen from Padasjoki in Finland.
Together with three other young ladies, they have been entertained by lions clubs within zone J, and have now moved to the youth camp at Hereford for a further 10 days until Sunday 6th August.  For more information click here.

Back row: Host families Lion Derek Livsey with Rebecca and Lynne, Lion Jim Dowling with Di, Catharine and Rachel, Ruth Smith with Lion Harry.

Front row: Our guests, Laura Kirchner (Minnesota, USA), Marja Englund (Finland), Ingunn Elverhoi (Norway), Hildur Bakkene (Sarpsborg, Norway) and Mia Nieminen (Padasjoki, Finland).

Laura has three sisters and one brother. After serving with the Peace Corps, she will study for a degree in Design and Communications.

Marja is the youngest of five girls and after having a gap year is going to study for a degree in history.

Ingunn has two younger sisters and she is going to study for a bachelor or masters degree in Social studies.

Hildur has four sisters. Whilst staying here, she was thrilled to learn that she had been accepted for a degree course in Journalism. She will start this a week after she returns to Norway in August.  Hildur took a number of photos and you can see them here http://misskarisma.spaces.live.com (You may need to use "internet explorer" to browse this site.)

Mia has one older brother. After a gap year, she is going to University to study English and wants to be a translator.

They have now departed for 10 days at the Youth Camp in Hereford where they will mix with 35 more young men and women from around the world, including some from Australia, Brazil, Estonia, Israel, Japan, Mexico and Ukraine.

Officially adopted by The International Association of Lions Clubs in 1974, the Lions International Youth Camp Program fulfils the First Purpose of the Lions: To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.
