Thurs 7th May 1998 @ The AlleyCat Live, Reading
- SONA FARIQ

Sona Fariq!
Saviours of the bloody universe. And YOU missed this! Hang yo' headz in shame and dejection!
I turned up to see the extraordinary Feline (second on the bill to headliners Carrie) but I was left staring down the barrel of a dull night when both bands blew the gig out.  The emergency support (who shall remain nameless here) did not inspire wild enthusiasm, to the point that Mihe of Sona Fariq had to chase the rapidly leaving punters into the street and beg them to hang on through the support act until Sona Fariq got onstage.

And lo! Their suffering was rewarded tenfold! For Sona Fariq got up there and brought us what we needed - a heavy groove, moving fast with a hip hop sensibility. You can hear Rage, Beastie Boys and Dub War in their sound. It's funkmetaldub with the heart of a lion. Mihe leaps about the stage, in your face, rapping out furious lyrics. Hardcore. Track after track rushing out at you, building and building, just to stop dead - and then jump right back up at you. Sona Fariq played to a dozen people like they were headlining Reading  Festy - all we needed was the dust and the dirt and the mosh pit and we'd be there.
If you want metal/dub/hardcore/hip hop  then don't miss 'em next time round. Sona Fariq  - tattoo it on your hand so you don't forget. You heard the righteous word here first.

Review by: J
Release date:  April '99
on:  Weird City Records
artist :  Sir Lordy Self Righteousness Feat.
Scatman PX
title:  Parliament

Background
: Weird City is  a  record label based at Wired Studios in Silver Street, Reading. This Scatman PX release is the first of five that Weird City plan to bring out in '99. Releases to include Scatman PX album, an  EP by the glorious Riser (see Baddazine No. 1) and a slab from beatastic desk-jockey-knob-twiddler Gag.  Weird City plan to do their bit to drag Reading up to fully fledged city staus by providing the town with half of the true requirements for a real city : "premiership football and top ten bands".

So, the record already. Three tracks here. The title track "Bring down Parliament" starts off with loops that stutter and groan before the beats kick in spluttering and chattering to life.  Then  a big distorted vocal stands the tune back for a moment before irresistable big beats and rolling, distorted synth sounds lift you up. This is without doubt the best kickass-anti-government-love-song ever written. Oi! FatBoy Slim! Watch your back!
