J: No-one gives a fuck here do they?

John: I don't understand the logic of this: The record label go: "Once you get a Top 40 hit in England, then we'll get you a record deal in Japan."
And you go: " You don't get Top 40 hits in England, unless you had a big hit in America and you come back here and do it." This is the hardest way round to actually do it, you know.

J: John, from back when you were a punk back in Membrane and that, does that link through into Goldblade?

John: Well nowadays, I've grown out of that kind of thing (Everyone cracks up). I look back at my misguided youth and the silly things I used to get up to, like y'know those days you used to sit around in freezing cold dressing rooms in Reading and stuff like that, I wouldn't be caught dead in a place like that now! (Laughs)...... No.

Review by Rammish:
Local Bands Night 21st November @ The Rising Sun Arts Centre,
Silver Street, Reading.

Featuring HAZE

When you turn up to a gig and find most of the audience are between
the ages of 14 and 17, you know that you are not going to have to
listen to (suffer) the same old chords played by 35 year old retro
fanatics - Which in my books is a good thing. So I looked forward to a
night of up-to-date sounds played by fresh talent........

Haze
are a bright young 4-piece from Reading with an average age of
16. Individually, they consist of a solid bass player, a subtle lead
guitarist, a charismatic lead vocalist/ rhythmn guitarist, and an
outstanding drummer (who I later found out is only 13). Collectively,
their music is somewhere between the sound of the Foo Fighters,
Nirvana, and Soundgarden with the added heaviness of early Tool,
but obviously they have their own angle on things.

Haze played about 10 songs over 45 minutes to a crowd of 30 young
punker/metalers who obviously got off on the vibe that Haze were
putting across. The highlight of the night was a suberb cover version
of Nirvana's Drain You which sounded even fresher than it did in 1991.
Haze have a promising future and I recomend that you see them
soon so you can say "I saw them before they did MTV Unplugged".
And they all lived happily ever after.
