Amores Perros

This film has been described as a Mexican Pulp Fiction, but that is somewhat misleading. It really has more in common with a Robert Altman film, like Short Cuts. While the structure of the film is similar to Mr Tarintino's, Iñárritu's film uses the jumps in time a little more.

One of the interesting features of the film is that even though it is set in Mexico City, we never get to see any famous landmarks. This gives the film a more universal feel. Rather than a particular city, we can imagine they've events occurring in any city. The film manages to capture the emotions generated by living in a modern urban environment. Everywhere from the slums to the high class apartments of the rich is covered.

Even if you would normally never go to see a two and a half hour long, subtitled, Mexican film, you should really give this one a go. I guarantee it will be hailed as a modern classic for years to come.
