Dream Life Of Angels

Reviewed 08/03/99

This was the last film of the 1999 Edinburgh Film Festival.

Its about the lives of Isa and Marie, two twenty something women living in Lille. The film follows these characters through their daily lives. Both women are broke most of the time, and Isa is effectively Homeless, but neither of them seem too worried about their situation.

There is not a great deal to the plot, and little action, but film still manages to grip you, and hold your attention. One reason that the film is so emotionally powerful is the outstanding performances from the two leads. After just a few minutes you forget that they are actresses, you become convinced that they are their characters. You become involved with their obsessions, their love lives and their friendship.

This is not a film which will automatically appeal to everyone, but it is certainly worth watching, even if its just on video or TV. It may even work better on the small screen as this will enhance the documentary feel.
