OK, so it took me a while to go and see this, but I had promised myself that no matter what all the reviews in the press said, this was a film I had to see.
Maybe it's because I'm a fan of comics in general (and superhero spoofs in particular) that I actually enjoyed this movie. Maybe the fact that it was a Saturday Afternoon Matinee helped. Maybe the fact that I'd just spent £5 to see it made me determined to enjoy the film, whether it was actually any good or not.
Anyway, its was pretty good. Champion City looks great. All the actors looked like they were having a whale of a time. William H Macy is great as the understated hero. Even Eddie Izzard was good (and his track record with film is very worrying. Avengers & Velvet Goldmine - Enough said).
All in all Mystery Men is 1 part Astro City and 9 parts Tick.
