Hedgehogs eat a diet composed primarily of high protein low fat quality cat or kitten food. They need 10% or under fat and 30% or over protien. Chicken is the best for hedgehog digestion, don’t give them fish flavour. Mr Toffee eats a mix of 2/3 Hills diet cat food and 1/3 Iams dry cat food, both chicken flavour. That way he gets the best nutrients and the Hills food is odourless which believe me is brilliant for when it comes out the other end!
Hedgehogs can eat many other things including, eggs; boiled or scrambled, fruit and vegetables (but never grapes) as well as minced beef and chicken. However Mr Toffee is an old man set in his ways and doesn’t seem to like any of those foods. I put water in a heavy ceramic bowl which keeps spills to a minium. Hedgehogs,
He loves meal worms and I buy live ones from the local pet shop. I keep them in the fridge (ewww) so they hibernate, when I take them out they wake up and wriggle about, he loves it! If I hide one he hunts around for it like a mad thing.
