31st October 2005: Play Park Opening
Some two years ago, Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club was approached by Carolynn Bennett with her idea to raise funds for play equipment for the disabled.
We were amazed at the response from the public and organisations, and money started to flow in and we achieved our target earlier this year.
Carolynn Bennett also continued with her fundraising, and was successful in persuading various organisations to fund equipment. Even Mowlem Construction (don’t mention the Spa) funded one item.

Included in the picture are 5 past presidents of the club.Demand for this type of equipment has been very high, and consequently, order times were longer than expected. Eventually all the equipment arrived and the Town Council engaged contractors to install the equipment and provide the necessary safety surfaces.
Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions are delighted to have helped in the provision of this play equipment. It has taken over two years for the idea to become reality, but the wonderful result is now here for all to see. Providing "inclusive" play equipment allows children, both able and disabled, to play together and will surely help in their inclusion into wider society in future years.
We extend our thanks to the local community for their assistance with our fundraising and we have erected a notice board in the Play Park acknowledging this.
22nd October 2005: Organised by Lion Phil Hathway, the club collected £453 in aid of the Pakistan Earthquake appeal. Many thanks to our public for their support.

Three Paulton Based Station 22 firemen are flying out to New York on 23 September, to remember the 911 disaster. With thousands of others, they are taking part in the Tunnel to Towers run, to honour and remember their fellow brothers who died in the attacks on the World Trade Centre. The three fire fighters, Paul Woolway, Chris Hillman and Paul Gibbs in full Fire Fighters Kit, will run the 5 kilometres in memory of a New York Fireman, who had just finished his shift and was returning home. Hearing the explosion, he donned his kit and ran to the disaster scene. Alas, he was never seen again. Starting at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, the run will be through downtown New York and will finish at Ground Zero. Monies raised will go toward the New York burns center and other centers across America. The men are funding the cost of the trip and the Lions club are pleased to donate toward the appeal. Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions have two former firemen in their ranks; Jack Church with 26 years service, 7 as Station Officer, and Terry Porter with 22 years service.5th September 2005: Tom Huyton Play Park

Lions
Awareness week, 25th March to 4th April and Message In A Bottle.
The Lions were out in force in Midsomer
Norton and Radstock to bring knowledge of Lions to
the general public. Leaflets were distributed, and
the message in a bottle scheme was launched. This is a free
scheme designed to help the elderly, sick or disabled. If you become ill
or unconscious, would the emergency services know your
personal medical details if they found you in your
house alone?
The free message in a
bottle scheme allows you to list your personal
medical details on a sheet of paper that is kept in a
bottle in the fridge. The emergency services will
know that you have a bottle because there will be a
sticker on the back of your front door and on the
fridge.
The information supplied could save your life by
giving the emergency services prior knowledge of your
medical history and the name of you next-of-kin.
Bottles are available from any Lion.
Easter Eggs,
2005.

by Diane Cottle who promptly put it back to sell
again, raising a further £66! Grateful thanks are
extended to Steve and Diane, and also to all our
other supporters.
