BANNOCKBURN

This is a picture of the statue of King Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn

The town of Bannockburn can be found on the outskirts of Stirling.
Bannockburn was the site of one of the most spectacular battles of the Scottish Wars of Independence.
Although conflict with the English lasted some 13 years beyond the battle, this enormous Scottish victory secured the future of the throne for Robert Bruce, King of Scots.

The excellent film BRAVEHEART contained one glaring error in its portrayal of William Wallace's campaign against the English King Edward. Never, on any occassion, did Bruce betray Wallace.
Robert the Bruce was a man of outstanding bravery and courage, amazing tactics and pure perseverance who led the Scots through 30 years of war to win their longed for freedom.

THE ROBERT THE BRUCE MEMORIAL stands at the edge of Bannockburn, on the site of Bruce,s headquarters during the battle and is well worth a visit.

In recent years a full dress re-enactment of the Battle of Bannockburn has taken place at the site. This re-enactment has taken place each year in the month of September and is very well attended. Anyone wishing to attend any future events are advised to check the local press for details at the time and to arrive early to ensure a place of vantage at what is a very busy event.

THE BANNOCKBURN HERITAGE CENTRE is sited alongside the memorial. The centre offers a great insight into the Battle of Bannockburn, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
