The GCBA is one of the constituent county associations of the EBU. It organises competitions and promotes bridge in Gloucestershire. GCBA competitions are generally open to all GCBA members, although a few events are restricted to less experienced players. GCBA events are held at Cheltenham Bridge Club.

GREEN POINT PAIRS/TEAMS

Jointly with Herefordshire, the GCBA ran a pair of events at Ross-on-Wye on 17 and 18th June.

 

In the Swiss Pairs the best local result was Geoff & Joan peel who came equal 2nd in a field of 96 pairs. ** Daniel McIntosh and Rob Myers (juniors from Stroud and Harrogate respectively) came 5th **.  Val Constable & Jim Simons came 11th and Kanwar & Veronica Rahim were 14th. Full results.

 

In the Swiss teams, there were 54 teams and we ended with the winners being Ian & Val Constable, Lyn Hayes and Tom Parker.  Second place went to Richard Hennell, Kanwar Rahim, Mark Rogers and Mike Wignall. Full results.

 

COMMITTEE

The new GCBA committee took over following the AGM in May 2005. The County Secretary is still Lesley Harrison. The Chief Tournament Director is still Paul Denning.

 

COUNTY NEWSLETTER

This is published early each month and is now available on the internet also.

 

The current set of competition rules is also available online.

 

We now have, on-line, information on all affiliated clubs within the county.

TOURNAMENT DIRECTING

There are courses for County Director Training in Coventry on 16/17th September. If interested please contact the EBU.

 

DAWES, PORTER & MARKHAM LEAGUES

The new season started with the Warwickshire match and the Worcestershire match. Results were very disappointing but we picked up agaisnt Lincolnshire in match 3 on 6th August, collecting 57/60 VPs.
